In Elite Squad, Captain Nascimento of the BOPE special police is ordered to clear the risks from a favela before the Pope visits in 1997. Elite Squad: The Enemy Within follows him years later into the corrupt system above the gangs. He took the same interest in armed institutions to Hollywood for RoboCop.
