A Hidden Life
dir. Terrence Malick · 2019
True courage is found in standing up for one's beliefs, even in the face of overwhelming adversity.
"A Hidden Life" is a visually stunning meditation on faith and moral courage, chronicling the quiet yet profound resistance of an Austrian farmer against the Nazi regime. Terrence Malick's masterful storytelling invites viewers to reflect on the weight of personal conviction in the face of overwhelming societal pressure.
Based on real events, A Hidden Life is the story of an unsung hero, Bl. Franz Jägerstätter, who refused to fight for the Nazis in World War II. When the Austrian peasant farmer is faced with the threat of execution for treason, it is his unwavering faith and his love for his wife, Fani, and children that keeps his spirit alive.
