Communities thrive on connection and resilience, and their survival depends on recognizing and defending their shared identity against external threats.
"Bacurau" is a visceral exploration of community resilience against systemic erasure, where a small Brazilian town's fight for survival against external threats unveils deep-seated issues of class and identity. With a unique blend of genre elements, this film challenges viewers to confront uncomfortable truths about society and the lengths to which individuals will go to protect their home.
Bacurau, a small town in the Brazilian sertão, mourns the loss of its matriarch, Carmelita, who lived to be 94. Days later, its inhabitants notice that their community has vanished from most maps.
