Deathdream

dir. Bob Clark · 1974

A young soldier, Andy, returns home from Vietnam, not as the man he once was, but as a ghost of his former self, haunted by the wishes of his mother to "Don't Die." As he isolates himself in his room, the film unfolds like a slow descent into despair, revealing the cracks in his family's facade. Watching it feels like wandering through a dimly lit house filled with echoes of unspoken grief and unresolved trauma, where the true horror lies not in the supernatural, but in the emotional devastation of a family torn apart by loss.

A young Soldier is killed in the line of duty in Vietnam. That same night, the soldier returns home, brought back by his Mother's wishes that he "Don't Die"! Upon his Return, Andy sits in his room, refusing to see his friends or family, venturing out only at night. The Vampiric horror is secondary to the terror that comes from the disintegration of a typical American family.
