Holy Spider

dir. Ali Abbasi · 2022

The struggle between personal beliefs and societal values can lead to destructive actions in the pursuit of a perceived moral righteousness.

A family man named Saeed believes he is on a divine mission to cleanse the streets of Mashhad from what he perceives as immorality. As he embarks on a series of brutal murders, the film immerses viewers in a chilling exploration of fanaticism and societal indifference. Watching it feels like being drawn into a dark labyrinth where moral lines blur and the consequences of one man's warped sense of justice unfold with harrowing intensity.

In Holy Spider, we follow family man Saeed as he embarks on his own religious quest - to "cleanse" the holy Iranian city of Mashhad of immoral and corrupt street prostitutes. After murdering several women, he grows ever more desperate about the lack of public interest in his divine mission.
