Icarus
dir. Bryan Fogel · 2017
The pursuit of truth and integrity can lead to profound personal transformation and unexpected consequences.
"Icarus" is a riveting exploration of the dark underbelly of sports, where ambition collides with ethics, revealing the shocking truth behind state-sponsored doping. This documentary not only captivates with its tense narrative but also invites viewers to reflect on the moral complexities of competition and integrity.
While investigating the furtive world of illegal doping in sports, director Bryan Fogel connects with renegade Russian scientist Dr. Grigory Rodchenkov—a pillar of his country’s “anti-doping” program. Over dozens of Skype calls, urine samples, and badly administered hormone injections, Fogel and Rodchenkov grow closer despite shocking allegations that place Rodchenkov at the center of Russia’s state-sponsored Olympic doping program.
