dir. Sion Sono · 2021
Life often requires individuals to confront their past mistakes and make difficult choices in order to find redemption and purpose.
"Prisoners of the Ghostland" is a wild ride through a dystopian landscape where a bank robber must navigate a surreal world of violence and redemption, all while racing against time in a self-destructing suit. This genre-blending film is a visceral exploration of morality and survival that challenges viewers to confront the chaos of existence.
Set in the treacherous frontier city of Samurai Town where a ruthless bank robber is sprung from jail by wealthy warlord The Governor, whose adopted granddaughter Bernice has gone missing. The Governor offers the prisoner his freedom in exchange for retrieving the runaway. Strapped into a leather suit that will self-destruct within three days, the bandit sets off on a journey to find the young woman and his own path to redemption.
