The Wicker Tree
dir. Robin Hardy · 2011
The search for meaning can lead to dangerous misunderstandings when one's beliefs clash with the values of others.
"The Wicker Tree" masterfully intertwines the grotesque and the idyllic, as a naive couple's mission of faith leads them to a village steeped in ancient rituals and dark secrets. This chilling tale of cultural dissonance and sacrifice invites viewers into a disturbing world where the pastoral charm of Scotland conceals ominous truths.
Gospel singer Beth and her cowboy boyfriend Steve leave Texas to preach door-to-door in Scotland. When, after initial abuse, they are welcomed with joy and elation to Tressock, the border fiefdom of Sir Lachlan Morrison, they're about to learn the real meaning of sacrifice.
