Tony Richardson

Angry young men, and the women stuck with them, in the north of England. Richardson directed Look Back in Anger on stage, then founded Woodfall Films with John Osborne to film it. A Taste of Honey follows a working-class teenager put out on the street when her mother remarries. In The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, a boy sent to reform school for robbing a bakery turns out to be a gifted runner. Tom Jones won him the Oscar and took him into costume comedy.
