Aftersun
dir. Charlotte Wells · 2022
Life is a complex tapestry of joyful moments and hidden sorrows that shape our understanding of those we love.
"Aftersun" is a poignant exploration of memory and loss, where a daughter navigates the bittersweet terrain of a past summer with her father. Through intimate visuals and a reflective narrative, the film encapsulates the essence of fleeting moments that shape who we are.
Sophie reflects on the shared joy and private melancholy of a holiday she took with her father twenty years earlier. Memories real and imagined fill the gaps between miniDV footage as she tries to reconcile the father she knew with the man she didn't.
