Solaris
dir. Andrei Tarkovsky · 1972
The experience of being alive is deeply intertwined with our memories and the unresolved emotions that shape our understanding of reality.
"Solaris" invites viewers on a haunting journey through the cosmos and the human psyche, where the past is an inescapable presence. Tarkovsky's masterful blend of visual poetry and existential inquiry offers a profound meditation on memory, love, and isolation.
A psychologist is sent to a space station orbiting a planet called Solaris to investigate the death of a doctor and the mental problems of cosmonauts on the station. He soon discovers that the water on the planet is a type of brain which brings out repressed memories and obsessions.
