the friendship that makes no sense

A rat and a garbage boy. A limo driver and the aristocrat he's paid to chauffeur. A boy wizard and the friends nobody expected him to keep. The friendship is the film's actual argument, not a subplot around the real one — these pairs shouldn't work on paper, and the film spends its runtime proving paper wrong.
